Server wipe

Dear users,

We regret to inform you that due to a recent update to Conduwuit, our application has experienced significant memory leaks, leading to instability. Compounding the issue, the original developer of Conduwuit has archived the project, rendering us unable to submit fixes or seek support. Consequently, we have been compelled to reset the server.

Issue Summary and Actions Taken:

  1. Memory Leak from Recent Update:
The latest Conduwuit update introduced memory leaks during runtime, severely affecting service stability.

  2. Rollback Attempt Unsuccessful:
In an effort to restore stability, we attempted to revert to a previous version. However, RocksDB, the database in use, does not support backward compatibility. This incompatibility prevented the older version from reading the newer data, causing the application to fail upon startup.

  3. Database Reconstruction:
We have backed up the current database and established a new, empty database.

  4. Backend Implementation Change:
To ensure better maintenance and support, we have transitioned the server backend from Conduwuit to Conduit, the original project from which Conduwuit was forked.

Impact on Users:

  • All previously stored data on this service is irretrievable.

  • To continue using the service, please register a new account.

Recommendations:

  • Avoid storing critical or sole copies of data on this server.

  • Regularly back up your data locally or on other trusted storage solutions using tools like Syncthing.

  • Thanks to the Matrix protocol’s end-to-end encryption, your data remains secure and inaccessible to server operators, mitigating concerns about data breaches or unauthorized access.

We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused by this service disruption and data loss. Should you have any questions or require assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Thank you for your understanding and continued support.
